Calypso was formed in 1984 by a group of players who wished to take the local game to a higher level of play. The team name of Calypso was selected because its original coach was from Trinidad. The team logo is a steel drum head with the soccer field in its center. Calypso’s roster consists of committed players of all ages who play at a highly competitive level. Having fun while playing hard remains the team’s objective. |

NOLA Ninjas formed through the merging of the Ambush and NOLA Elite teams. Both previous teams were recently formed in the Fall of 2010. Each group consisted of strong players, but they both struggled to get numbers on the field each week. In the Fall of 2011, the two teams came together to form the NOLA Ninjas. The Ninjas' roster consists of committed players of all ages who like to play hard and have a good time. At the very start of their first season, this proved to be a winning combination. |

Mudbugs is the
oldest team in the league. In 1981, a group of Over-30 Mothers of
Willowdale-Metairie youth soccer players endured a rigorous 20 minute
training session. Not surprisingly, the Willowdale-Metairie Mothers
lost their first game two weeks later 12-0. After several name changes
(Willowdale/Metairie Mothers, Willowdale Women or Metairie and Willowdale
Wildcats), the name Mudbugs was bestowed during a game played in
ankle-deep water and mud in 1984. |

Shooters started under the name Just For Kicks in 1993 by Cindy Perret. The team was set up for beginning soccer players. In the late 90s, Terry Lumetta took over as coach and organizer, and the team became the Sting for a few years. Shortly after the new millennium, the Sting changed their name to The Edge when Paul Stone became the coach. The Edge enjoyed some successful seasons in the GNOWSL. At the beginning of the Fall 2004 season, the name morphed yet again and Shooters were born. |
